Movie Research: Costume

Costume is the clothes that actors wear that are used to convey a character's status or personality. Costumes are significant because it creates a more realistic aspect in the film and helps actors fit into the role they are playing. Costumes help establish tone, style, time place, and character personality.

Tone is a quality in the voice that expresses the speaker's feelings or thoughts, often toward the person being spoken to. Style is techniques a director uses to create a movie and it can include theme, sound, dialogue cinematography and lighting. Time is when the film takes place is important to the aesthetic of the film. Place is setting and where the film take place. Character personality are the traits defining characteristics and these are revealed through their actions throughout the story.

Evelyn Abbott, the mother, is wearing a green dress, brown knitted sweater, and has a stomach bump because she's pregnant at the moment. Her costume is won constantly throughout the film even after getting dirty. This shows that she hardly has time for her own needs. It goes along with the narrative because the antagonist is presenting issues for this family so attempting to keep everyone safe is the main priority. Regan Abbott, the daughter, is wearing a dark blue shirt, a long skirt, no shoes, and bracelets. A long skirt can be a symbol of femininity, softness, and receptivity. Bracelets can be a symbol of innocence, child-like, usually have importance. No shoes can be a symbol of pain and hardship. She could be wearing no shoes because of her circumstances.
