Movie Research: Lighting
The lighting setup guides the eye to a specific actor, prop, or part of a scene. Lighting is significant because it tells the audience where to look, controls how the audience see things in the frame, reflect the psychology of characters, and defines and supports the genre of the film.
In one scene, Marcus Abbott, which is the eldest son, is scared and Lee Abbott, the father, is talking to him. It is nighttime and there are red lights. The red lights signify heightened emotions, violence, and danger. They are also running in that scene through the grass, and you can see the grass with the little light there is, but you can also see the right lights in the back.
