Preliminary Exercise: Camera Movement Videos
This assignment is the camera movement video assignment. Camera movement is the way a camera shifts to visually narrate and shape a viewer's perspective of a scene. The purpose of this assignment is to learn about different camera movements we can use in our opening movie scene. Minerva J-G, which is me, was the camera person. I used an iphone 12 camera to record the videos. I was the director for this assignment. Lexi M., Ryan S., math teacher, and a whole class were the actors. The screenwriter was Micah G.
The technique that was the most uncomplicated demonstrating was zoom out. It was very easy to do. The camera technique that was most complicated demonstrating was trucking because I had to following the actor from the side. I had to keep up with her while trying to record her from the side. It was easy to work with my group. Iphones were used in the creation of the videos.
Zoom In
Zoom in is when the camera magnifies the size of the subject in the frame.
Action Line: Ricky was tired and about to fall asleep.
The boy laying his head down about to fall asleep in class. I used zoom in to focus the video on just the boy not anyone else.
Crash Zoom
Crash zoom is a type of shot where the camera zooms in or out quickly.
Action Line: The water bottle was almost empty.
The water in the water bottle was almost gone because someone drank it. I used crash zoom to quickly focus on the water bottle.
Zoom Out
Zoom out is demagnifies the size of the subject in the frame.
Action Line: Ms. Grey was trying to teach her bored class.
The teacher was walking around talking about the math problem she was teaching. I used zoom out because I wanted to focus on Ms. Grey, then show her class and how they look.
Tracking
Tracking is the camera physically moves sideways, forward, or backward through the scene generally following a moving figure or object.
Action Line: Alex was walking to class.
The girl was walking from her previous class to her next class. I used tracking to track as she walked to her next class.
Trucking
Trucking is a camera along a fixed point, moving left or right.
Action Line: Alex was speed walking to practice, because she was late.
The girl was walking quickly to practice because she was already late. I used trucking to show her quick pace.
Static
Static is no camera movement at all.
Action Line: Alex and Kayla were talking, sitting at desks.
The two girls were sitting, talking, waiting for the bell to ring to leave class. I used static because they were just talking and static captures everything in the scene that it needed to.
