Sound in film is used to enhance the movie experience and make it feel realistic for the audience. It includes music, background noise, dialogue, and sound effects. You hear these things while watching a movie.
Music is a vocal or instrumental sounds combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion. Music in film is a central component of a film's soundtrack. Music can establish the mood and tone of a movie, communicate elements of the film setting, and psychological states of the characters.
Background noise is an extraneous sound which can be heard while listening to or monitoring other sounds. Ambient sounds in film represent the background noises that are present within a particular scene or location.
Dialogue is a conversation between two or more people as a feature of a book, play, or movie. In film, dialogue is a primary method of communication. Dialogue creates a more vivid image in the viewer's mind, which allows them to experience the story in a new way. Dialogue reveals a character's traits and motivations. It can also set the sense just by the tone of a character's voice.
Sound effects are a sound other than speech pr music made artificially for use in a play, movie, or other broadcast production. These sounds are recorded sounds that are added to a scene to enhance the experience for the viewers. Some sound effects are futuristic sounds or foley.
The two main types of sound in film are diegetic and non-diegetic. Diegetic sound is any sound that comes from a film. Non-diegetic sound is sound that does not originate from the world of the film and that the characters cannot hear.
